Dental Insurance FAQ

What happens to my dental insurance if I leave employment?
Dental Insurance is subject to the same COBRA rules as the medical insuranceCOBRA is a federal law that states that health and dental benefits can be continued for employees who lose their jobs for specified reasons. Under COBRA, the dental insurance must be made available to the employee at the more affordable group rate. This benefit is only available for a limited time, usually 18 months.

Am I covered right away for all dental services under my dental plan?
Once your dental insurance becomes effective, the services may or may not be subject to waiting periods.  It is important to be familiar with the details of your specific plan.  Some plans will provide Preventive Services without a waiting period, but will apply a six month wait for Basic Services and as long as 12 or 24 months for Major Restorative Services.  If your group participates in dental insurance made available by Ochs, Inc., contact us for specific information.

What is a late entrant?
A late entrant is an employee that waived coverage at the initial enrollment opportunity and would now like to be added to the dental plan.  Group dental plans may have additional waiting periods that apply to those employees who did not elect the dental coverage within 31 days of becoming eligible for the insurance.  If your group participates in dental insurance made available by Ochs, Inc., contact us to learn if late entrant limitations apply to your plan.
